Who doesn’t love a good sex scene? Whether it’s sensual, emotional, or just plain sexy, there are a ton of different ways to write a good, naughty scene into a film. Some folks might write off sensual scenes as unnecessary, but these scenes can really tell you a lot about a character or advance a movie’s plot.
For example, sex in film can show that two characters really care about each other, as a way to rebel against parents or some other authority, or as a transition to adulthood. It makes things a lot more interesting for us viewers when a love scene says something about a character’s motivations. It doesn’t hurt if the scene’s a hot one too.
Just like in real life, there are a ton of reasons characters boink and we’re here for it all. Here are ten of our favorite sex scenes in film!
Ah, Dirty Dancing, the beloved 80s flick that has kept fans captivated for years! The movie follows Jennifer Grey’s character Baby as she leaves childhood behind and falls in love with dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). The movie doesn’t have any explicit scenes, but the scene in which Baby & Johnny dance to “Hungry Eyes” is all foreplay.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Speaking of extended scenes of foreplay, Mr. & Mrs. Smith is the sexy thriller that cemented Brangelina. The movie is about two assassins who work for competing organizations that are contracted to kill each other. The problem is . . . they’re married. There is one scene involving a gunfight that is surprisingly sexual. The entire scene is basically one big allusion to hot love between the couple.
The film Pleasantville has a unique take on sexual relations. In the movie, siblings David (Toby Maguire) and Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon) are transported into a TV show. The show takes place in the 1950s when things were, in a lot of ways, simpler.
Everything in Pleasantville is in black & white, and it isn’t until people in the town begin experiencing new things, including awakening sexualities, two previously unknown concepts, that things begin to transition to color.
Y Tu Mamá También
If you’re looking for a movie with a hot threesome, check out Y Tu Mamá También. In it, best friends Tenoch (Diego Luna) & Julio (Gael García Bernal) take a road trip with older woman Luisa (Maribel Verdú) after she receives distressing news from her doctor. Along the way, the three of them make love with each other in a scene that is filled with passion.
Black Swan may be a movie about a young woman becoming mentally ill, but it does contain a hot scene you aren’t likely to forget. Ballerinas Nina, played by Natalie Portman, and Lily, played by Mila Kunis, descend on Nina’s childhood bedroom (after slamming the door in her overbearing mother’s face) and proceed to have one of the best cunnilingus scenes known to man.
Titanic was a smash hit when it came out in 1997 and has remained a favorite ever since. It would be seen as a coming-of-age film if it weren’t for the fact that Jack dies at the end. One of the ways in which he grows as a person is when he & Rose make whoopee in the back of a car not long after he draws her nude. No one will ever forget that handprint on the window.
Legends of the Fall
Brad Pitt finds his way one the list once again in Legends of the Fall, a movie about three brothers who all fall for the same woman, Susannah (Julia Ormand). It is Tristain (Brad Pitt), the wild middle brother, who ultimately gains her heart and with whom she has the sensual scene.
Ryan Gosling’s character Dean is all about his wife’s pleasure in Blue Valentine. Dean and Cindy (Michelle Williams) are a married couple with a tumultuous relationship. Despite this, the couple really does try to make their relationship work throughout the nonlinear film. Audiences are just thankful for that hot scene!
What we like about the lurve scene in Monster’s Ball is not only is it sexy, it’s all very consensual! Billy Bob Thornton’s Hank blatantly asks Halle Berry’s Leticia if she wants him to touch her. And touch her he does! This film won Halley Berry an Oscar for Best Actress so you know it’s bound to be good.
The thriller Basic Instinct is a film chock full of sex appeal. The movie features a deadly love triangle between homicide detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas), mystery writer Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone), and her girlfriend Roxy Hardy. Basic Instinct is best known for the scene where Catherine crosses and uncrosses her legs in a short white dress.
